Kalu Rinpoche | Amitabha teaching (Afternoon session) Part 13

Now that is the confession, you know, confession of your body, speech and mind, if you have done any sort of negativity, and so on. Yeah.

Just to, just to let you know, the little bit aspect, the meaning of confession in a Buddhist term. When we’re making a confession, we are not saying: “I’m so sorry I upset you”. Okay? So you’re not making the Buddha upset by doing something. You will never upset the Buddha or Bodhisattva, even you try your best, okay?

So, so you should not perceive in that way as if that you are being judged by the Buddha, that you will have face the ultimate judgment by the Buddha because you did something wrong, or you know. It’s not like that. You are making a confession to reflect on yourself rather than pleasing anybody, you know? So you’re not upsetting Buddha and Bodhisattva. You can try all your best, you will never succeed to upset them. There’s more possibility that you will be enlightened than making them upset.

Because existence of all the Buddha and Bodhisattva is a compassionate being. You know? So, there’s, therefore, there’s no such thing as “disappointed because you didn’t, you know, because you made them upset”, or, you know?

Okay? So, whenever we are making a confession, Buddha is not cleaning our negativity, nor he’s accepting our apology or any sort of things like that. It’s more to do with the reflecting on oneself, purifying oneself by recognizing your own illusion of your own mind and that’s it. That’s the, the real purification, you know? Buddha cannot clean it for you, cannot lift you up and put you in a different place, you know, because you have a VIP access or the premium subscription [haha] or. Doesn’t work like that, you know?

So, so that, that is the beauty of Buddhism, right? Because nobody is upholding you, somewhere else, nobody is, has, nobody is a supreme judgment, you know? You are your own creator of your own suffering, your own creator of your own happiness, yeah. …
