Q: Can we participate on pujas without empowerment?
A: Well, that depends on the prayers and practice.
Any tantric level of, any Vajrayana pujas, you really need to receive the empowerment. It’s very important.
And then if it’s only making a prayer to the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, and then, also how do I say, making Amitabha prayer, Medicine Buddha, Green Tara and so on, so forth, not necessarily have to receive empowerment.
But regardless of whether you are receiving empowerment here and there or not, the most important is that, if you are going to do a retreat with that particular deity that you have in mind, you need to receive empowerment. And even if the empowerment is not really required, at least from your local instructor that you may find, you know, to receive some proper guideline. How to visualize, how to meditate, how to start the retreat even it’s a few days of retreat and so on. You know? So proper preparation with the proper understanding is the much more important and needed.
