Kalu Rinpoche | Creation and Completion (Session 6) | Not a meditation neither a non-meditation

“Gom pa ma yin mi gom pa yang min”

So now it’s coming to the next sentence. “Gom pa ma yin mi gom pa yang min” so this one, this sentence is very, very beautiful but at the same time, it’s beyond, little bit beyond my description. “Gom pa ma yin mi gom pa yang min” it’s not a meditation, but it’s also, “Gom pa ma yin”, it’s not a meditation, neither the non-meditation. I think if I’m there, I think I would say “let’s have some whisky little bit, I think that’s better, we stop writing for the moment for tonight”. I don’t drink by the way, I’m just making a joke.

“Gom pa ma yin mi gom pa yang min” “Gom pa ma yin”, now we are entering into the new chapter, okay? “Gom pa ma yin” means it’s not a meditation, neither a non-meditation, that’s the sentence. Because “Gom pa min te mig tëd gang yang med” because it’s not a “Mi gom min te yong su tang wa med” okay, I have to keep my mind straight. “Gom pa min te mig tëd gang yang med” because it is a non-meditation, the reason why he describes as non-meditation, because your mind is not concentrating into any sort of object, so therefore it is a non-meditation, okay? And you also cannot say “Mi gom min te”, you also cannot say “it is not a non-meditation” because your mind is still very much present, and it is not chaotic.

Tcho nid” means the nature of mind, “Tcho nid rang ngo che tsam de tog dzog” you simply notice the nature of the mind, and then simply stay on that.

de tog dzog” means just stay on that. “Tcho nid rang ngo che tsam de tog dzog” there’s a difference between, I think I said this before, I’m not really sure, there’s a difference between “recognizing”, the idea of “recognizing” and the meaning of “noticing”. When you say “recognizing”, like an example you are telling me how to describe this person, right? “How do you see this person? Or what is the height of this person? What is the color of this person? What is the shape of this mountain?” You know? Then I have to say “I recognize this mountain, I recognise this person, I recognize this deity, I recognize this object, I recognize this shrine”, so it has a very strong sensation of, deep in that thought, it has a very strong sensation of “I acknowledging it”, “I recognizing that”, “I holding into that idea of what I’m seeing”, you know, there’s some sort of rigidness within that. So, when you become a practitioner over the time, you will start to understand what is the meaning of “noticing”, you know? So when you’re “noticing” it, you have absolutely no attachment, you have absolutely no expectation, no attachment, no strong opinion, just simply subtle, subtle, bond, subtle level of, sense of bond, you know? A connection, let’s say, subtle connection “ngo che tsam” that’s how to describe it. Subtle connection, subtle connection that’s “ngo che tsam”, “ngo” means face, “che” means recognizing, “che tsam”, “tsam” means simply noticing the face, “de tog dzog” means stay on the top, you know? Stay on that, stay on that course.

De la lo yi sam dja yöd min te” in that state of the consciousness, in that state of mind, or in that state, there’s no idea of “this” and “that”, like a busy thought that we have, like we all have.

Don dam lo de mig med yin pe so” and this is ultimate, “lo de” means beyond the duality, “lo” means mind, “de” means beyond. Beyond the conceptual idea of the mind, “mig med yin pe so” without any visualization.

“Nam tog yul dang drel dri ma tche na
Ma tcho zer yang trul pa dog mi tub
Ta khen nang dang ta yul tchir tchëd pa
Rang char rang drol zer yang nyi dzin nyid
Nyen po med na rang char rang drol yin”

seeing the state of the consciousness and the liberation at the same time.

Rang char rang drol” but if you have a very strong idea that “this is what I’m seeing!” “this is what I am recognizing!” if you have that, it’s still, you are not liberated. Because you have a very strong opinion of “nyi dzin“, “nyi dzin” means “I recognize”, “I” in a sense of self-fixation, “recognizing” means external object idea, idea of the external object, “nyi dzin“, that’s the subtle level of fixation. So if you don’t, if you overcome that, then it is called “recognition and the true liberation”.

So we need to develop with a sense of mindfulness, and then over the time, awareness, and the subtle recognition, and then over the time, we need to maintain and maintain and maintain that. And then over the time, even that subtle fixation can be dissolved. And then it’s called some sort of liberation, let’s put it like that.

Monthly ZOOM teachings by Kalu Rinpoche
Session 6 – November 7, 2021 (44′ 35”)

“[55] Gom pa ma yin mi gom pa yang min
It is not meditation, nor is it nonmeditation.
Gom pa min te mig tëd gang yang med
Not being meditation, there is nothing at all to focus on,
Mi gom min te yong su tang wa med
and not being nonmeditation, there can be no distraction.
Tcho nid rang ngo che tsam de tog dzog
Simply place the mind on the bare apprehension of the nature of reality.
De la lo yi sam dja yöd min te
This is not a thought-object of the rational mind,
Don dam lo de mig med yin pe so
because the absolute is beyond intellect and without reference point.
Nam tog yul dang drel dri ma tche na
If the intimate connection between thought and object is not severed,
Ma tcho zer yang trul pa dog mi tub
although you call it “uncontrived,” it cannot reverse delusion.
Ta khen nang dang ta yul tchir tchëd pa
Severing the inner perceiver and the external object
Rang char rang drol zer yang nyi dzin nyid
may be called self-arising self-liberating, but it is still duality.
Nyen po med na rang char rang drol yin
When there is no antidote, it is self-arising self-liberating.”
