Q: How can we control our mind from family and friends?
A: There’s no such thing as “protecting your mind” or “control your mind”. The most important is that you practice dharma. As you practice Dharma, and then you will have more awareness in the mind. So before the anger shows the color, you can dissolve the anger. Before the judgment shows its true color, you can dissolve the judgment. So practice dharma, that’s the only solution.
And the meditation is not a solution for everybody. Many people they think “there are meditations for everybody”; of course, it is for everybody. But some people you know, building stupas, give them some sort of a cleansing to their mind and doing a kora [circumambulation] or visiting a monastery or receiving a teaching; so it can be a different spiritual connection. It doesn’t have to be the same always. So start your journey like that, then it will be meaningful.
