Kalu Rinpoche | How to recognize the distraction when reciting mantras(3)——Recognize the Nature of the Mind

Q: How to recognize the distraction when we are reciting mantras?

A (Part 3): So, I think the most important is, yeah, having concerned that ‘I need to practice myself today in this moment, in this short period of time’, having that kind of content mindset, and then slowly analyzing: ‘Ah! where is the projection of thoughts?’ , and also a very tendency to trying to investigate the projection of thoughts itself. And then also understanding the projection of thoughts. And ultimately, there’s nothing more to be understood. There’s just something to realize and that is the projection of thoughts is a creation of mind, when your state of mind is unable to recognize the nature of the mind.

Any absence of unable to recognize the nature of the mind is distraction. And I think that is something that we have to keep in mind.

Because when we talk about distraction, there’re two things. One is emotionally distracted or projection of thoughts, and then there’s an undercurrent distraction. And then the third one is basically is very general, and it is any separation from the nature of mind is a distraction. So, even with what we are practicing, that is still a distraction. But it is a good distraction to develop more strength, to develop more qualities.

So therefore having too much of a concern doesn’t solve the issue. So, therefore, understanding the projection of thoughts.
