Kalu Rinpoche | How to train our mind to get peaceful death (Part 4)

But when I, when I talk about practicing of the illusion, you know? Like, practicing of illusion, and in order to understand that, you need to have a genuine realization. In order to have that kind of a profound clarity realization, you need to do retreat. Because you can’t, you know, you can’t just get angry all the time, and every day, every hours, every minute, and you cannot tell yourself “I’m happy”. That is just impossible, you know, from the emotional circumstance as, you know, an ordinary human being, you know? You cannot say “I am very sad”, by being happy all the time, you know? Even though that is our imagination goal, you know?

But in order to reach at some point, you need to do retreat. But then again, in order to do, in order to do retreat, we need to understand the true meaning of the, what is the definition of retreat. Does the definition of retreat means going somewhere in the, in a mountain? No. Does the retreat means changing clothes? Absolutely not. Does the retreat means do nothing? Absolutely not. Does the retreat means, you know, reading lots of text and reciting many things? Still not.

The true meaning of retreat means having a sense of awareness without any sensation of obligation. When you have a, you know, genuine awareness and then wherever you go, whatever you may do, you are always in the retreat. You don’t have to tell other people you are in the retreat, or you are not in a retreat. But in order to reach that quality, you need to have some form of foundation.

So, that form of foundation, you can establish in your home, with your family lifestyle. You can do once in a week, and so on, so forth.
