Kalu Rinpoche | Mahakala wangs – inseparable as a shadow

So now when it comes to the empowerment, I have told you earlier there is a giving a gift to all the spirits and then there is a cleansing stage. So later I will do the cleansing visualisation and then also doing the symbolic gesture. Then, for all of you, you have to think that “Oh, there is a sense of gift to all the spirits and then let all the spirits be joyful by receiving whatever they demand or whatever they are looking for” after the cleansing is finished, right?

So once that is done and then there will be an introduction of the origin of the Six-Armed Mahakala and so on. Once that is completed and then bringing the Wisdom Deity [The Actual Deity] into a samaya deity [Your visualised deity] that is there and followed by Six-Armed Mahakala empowerment with the Body, Speech and Mind and then, receiving the empowerment of the mala.

So now I will explain to you little bit about the Six-Armed Mahakala empowerment in terms of appearance.

So the appearance of Six-Armed Mahakala is with six arms. The meaning of the six arms, it means liberator of the six realms, that is the meaning.

Then the curved knife [drigu] that he is holding in the right hand, that represents wisdom that is able to cut through all the negativities and obstacle.

Then the kapala holding nectar [Amrita], that represents the state of mind beyond the perfection and the imperfection.

Then he is holding a trident in the left hand, that represents the three kayas.

Then the third left hand, he is holding a rope [a lasso] and that symbolises keeping the negativity at bay.

Then in the right hand he is holding a kapala mala. So the kapala mala, in this one, it means that he has so much compassion, great compassion to all the sentient beings. Therefore all the numbers of the sentient beings has been calculated by his mala, so to show the extent and expansion of the compassion, right? because Six-Armed Mahakala is an emanation of Avalokiteshvara, isn’t he?

Then in the third right hand he is holding a damaru, a damaru is like the same as the one I am holding here, and that represents reflecting the sound of emptiness or magnetising positivity and so on.

Then his standing posture, it means that he is constantly caring about all the sentient beings and then especially those who are authentic Dharma practitioner and Shangpa Niguma Yoga practitioner and so on, then he tends to be there, almost like inseparable as a shadow for our own body.

Then there is Ganesh underneath the Six-Armed Mahakala and that represents generating wealth and the positivity for our spiritual journey.
