Then now, in order to explain to you the Cleansing practice of Niguma [Cleansing Practice of AH], I need to explain to you a little bit of the history of Niguma.

Niguma is basically a Khandroma [Dakini].
When we think about the Khandroma, we think it’s something to do with the consort, something to do with it depending on getting married to somebody or being a partner of somebody. You may think that, but that is not a consort. I mean that it a consort in some aspect but the real aspect of the consort or the Khandroma is basically not being dependent on any worldly thing, that is the meaning of the Khandroma.
The meaning of Dakini and Mahasiddhas,Yogi, Yogini, Yogini Niguma is that it is a state of mind that has been reached, that is beyond the perfection and imperfection state of mind.
Then Niguma herself she is the elder sister of Naropa. Tilo (Tilopa) and Naro (Naropa) are the founders of the Kagyupa lineage. Within the Kagyupa there are many different sections and categories, smaller lineage, major lineage, and so on, but that is not the topic of today. Niguma she is the elder sister of Naropa. So that’s that.
Then she was born in a Brahmin cast family in Kashmiri region. Then after on she spent more of her time in Bihari region.
I think all of you understand very clearly about the Buddhist Himalaya history but I think the most important thing to understand is that during the 7th and the 8th century of course there were different emperors and kingdoms and so on. But later on there were many, many great masters who travelled through Nepal, received teachings from great masters from Nepal and then going to Bodhgaya receiving teachings in Bodhgaya and all that. It happened so many times.
