Kalu Rinpoche | Niguma’s “Amulet Mahamudra” (Afternoon session) | Previous Kalu Rinpoche Mahamudra teaching 6

dé ta bü né luk ma tok par khorwa duk ngel gyi gya tso chen por dü tak tu jingwé kha khyap sem chen di kün nying ré jé nyam pé nying jé pur tsuk dang

[What a pity, all those sentient beings throughout space who don’t realize their true nature in that way and are forever sinking in the great ocean of samsaric suffering.
Focus your compassion with that thought.]

So therefore, some people when they practice a Deity they forget the compassionate practice, you know, like the visualization, compassionate visualization. And so don’t forget that. So he is saying “As much as important, it is important to focus into Deity, also it is equally important to practice the compassionate visualization and so on.

[who don’t realize their true nature in that way and are forever sinking in the great ocean of samsaric suffering.]

So therefore I’m practicing Dharma in order to benefit all the sentient beings, to liberate from the sea of the samsara and that is my intention, that is my goal, that is my will. Based upon these motivations, I’m practicing a Deity.

kyap su dé dak gi duk ngel gyu dang dré bu ché pa dak la tim zhing dé dak duk ngel dang drel
dak gi dé gé ma lü pa dé dak la tim pé né kap dé kyi dang den

[Sometimes think that all of their suffering, both as cause and result, melts into yourself, and they become free of suffering. All your own happiness and merit melt into them.
For the time being they gain happiness.]

And then such as, he is saying “You can also do a Tonglen Practice”. You know? Like saying that “All the sentient beings negativity I vacuum, I vacuum all the negativities into me, so that they are absent of all the sufferings and miserable state of mind and they are in a complete pure joy and pure happiness, temporarily.” You know? And then you meditate with that sort of attitude. You know? So that’s that.

Some people they like to say that “Oh I did the Tonglen Practice and therefore I had a headache yesterday.” I don’t think we are that far yet. I would say “you wish, but that is not the reality”. I think we are very far from that. So that’s that.

So just do the Tonglen Practice as much as you want, there is no, there will be no exchange of any of that. So don’t worry about it.

[For the time being they gain happiness and ultimately they attain awakening.
Do this sending and taking again and again.
This is called the lord of all purification of obscurations,]

So that is the, one of the greatest purification practice. You know, one purification practice is the Vajrasattva obviously. But this is, you know, the most supreme purification practice is the Tonglen Practice. Because the very cause of all the negativity is due to “I” as an importance and “Them” as a separate and then the cycle of suffering starts from there. You know? So simply reciting the Vajrasattva mantra and then not having any sort of awareness and mindfulness will not going to liberate anybody, including yourself.

So therefore, it is important to practice Tonglen, you know, in terms of visualization and that itself is a supreme purification. So that’s that.

[This is called the lord of all purification of obscurations, the best of all protections, the armor of love, the helmet of compassion,]

Like a Tonglen Practice and the Chöd Practice has some, is exactly the same. You know, the Chöd Practice is, the example is given based upon the human corpse and you know, then the transmitting the state of the consciousness and so on. But it’s a very, exactly the same principle, you know, to be compassionate, to be generous, in a form of human body and then purifying all of these human forms into a pure, purified offering into so many beautiful objects and giving it to all the sentient beings, giving it to all the spirits and offering to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. So these are the Chöd Practice principles as well as the Tonglen Practice. So like Machik Labdrön she said in the Chöd Practice, she said: “It is much more beneficial if you say: take it and take it all rather than saying that protect me and protect me forever”. You know? So that is what Machik Labdrön said. Because everything is based on the fixation. So if you have a less fixation, whatever the other person try to make a worse out of you they can’t. You know? So that’s that.

drip jang kün gyi gyel po sungwa kün gyi chok gyur

[This is called the lord of all purification of obscurations, the best of all protections,]

It becomes a supreme Protector’s Practice as well, when you have that sort of a mindset. “བྱམས་པའི་གོ་ཆ།” “jam pé go cha” and that is also a kindness, it is also a compassionate and then, by the result of that, and then emptiness can be understood.

tong nyi nying jé nying po chen zhé sang gyé kyi gyu mé tap mé pé né zap mö

[emptiness with the heart of compassion. Without this cause of awakening there is no way. This is a profound crucial point.]

So these are the very, very important methods and the practice that is given by all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
