Kalu Rinpoche | Niguma’s “Amulet Mahamudra” (Morning session – Revival of the lineage)

Taranatha was the one who revived many of the teachings of the Shangpa lineage, such as “The Niguma Yogas”. Because many texts were about to be lost. So he put together, make sure that everything is preserved correctly and written correctly, so there’s no mistakes within.

We have to keep in mind that nobody has Google or Facebook or other forms of communication, so everybody starts to do their own thing, you know? When you’re not really careful, when you’re not really organized the text together. So what Taranatha did was making sure that everybody has exactly the same text, making sure that nothing is being lost, making sure everything is written correctly, so there’s no misunderstanding, including the wording, so on. So to that extend he tried to do it. So that’s one of the revival of the lineage master.

And the second revival of the lineage was Jamgon Kongtrul Lodrö Tayé who was a student of previous reincarnation of Situ Rinpoche. So that’s that.

And then Previous Kalu Rinpoche, of course, he was recognized as a reincarnation of Jamgon Kongtrul Lodrö Tayé by 11th Situpa, basically 11th Situ Rinpoche. And then Previous Kalu Rinpoche was the first Buddhist master in the history to put people in the three years retreat in the West. And not just that but also allowing people, even if they are not a monk or not a nun giving them full empowerment, full transmission and putting them in a retreat and giving them the title of the lama, so on, so forth. So I see him as a revival of the lineage. So that’s that.
