Kalu Rinpoche | One word of Dharma

Q: Dear Rinpoche, tell me one word of Dharma that I can follow every day?

A: It’s a word from one of the Shangpa Kagyu masters, and he said, and I love that very much, because it is not too much dramatic, you know, some masters they are little bit dramatic and poetic and just lose the touch with the reality.

That master said “འཁྲུལ་ན་སེམས་ཅན་རེད། མ་འཁྲུལ་ན་སངས་རྒྱས་རེད། trul nang sem ge red ma trul nang sang ge red“, that’s it, very simple. “If your mind is influenced by the illusion, you are in samsara, if you are absent from the illusion, you are enlightened”. How beautiful is that? “འཁྲུལ་ན་སེམས་ཅན་རེད། མ་འཁྲུལ་ན་སངས་རྒྱས་རེད། trul nang sem ge red ma trul nang sang ge red“. And you can keep that in your mind, you know? Then you can have a more awareness of the choice you make and the Dharma practice you do, the meaning of the Dharma, the purpose of the Dharma, the goal of the Dharma, you know?

So “འཁྲུལ་ན་སེམས་ཅན་རེད། trul nang sem ge red” “If you are under the influence of the illusion, you are in samsara, if you are absent from the illusion of the mind, you are enlightened being” It’s very simple, isn’t it? Very, very, very simply beautiful and I love that part!

འཁྲུལ་ན་སེམས་ཅན་རེད། མ་འཁྲུལ་ན་སངས་རྒྱས་རེད། trul nang sem ge red ma trul nang sang ge red” because sometime, when you practice Dharma and read the sutras and mantras, and receiving empowerments, doing puja, and then sometimes you get lost about what you’re actually doing, what you are trying to do. So you lose the track of what you’re trying do. So then, when you reflect with the simple meaning, instead of reading so many things you know, we reflect with the “འཁྲུལ་ན་སེམས་ཅན་རེད། མ་འཁྲུལ་ན་སངས་རྒྱས་རེད། trul nang sem ge red ma trul nang sang ge red” so when you reflect like that and then you bring more awareness, you bring more sense of purpose in your mind, and what is the genuine purpose, you know?

So that’s that.
