Kalu Rinpoche | The Five Dakinis (Afternoon session – A strength in your prayer)

And in order to initiate your spiritual path, inner discipline, you need to have a strength in your prayer.

སྨོན་ལམ་བྱེད་དགོས་རེད་། སྨོན་ལམ་མེད་པ་ཡིན་ན་སྒོབ་རྩ་ནས་རང་བཞིན་སྒྲུག་ཡོང་གི་མ་རེད།

“mön lam jé gö ré mön lam mé pa yin na gop tsa né rang zhin druk yong gi ma ré”
You need to have a prayer, if there is no prayer, the practice can never be accomplished at all.

You need to have a prayer, determination and prayer. That’s how you start. The སྨོན་ལམ། “monlam”  is very important.

Like an example, even I would like to practice Dharma and be enlightened and reach to a certain realization in this life, even I can’t reach that instantly in this life, at least I want to be helpful to myself and to others. That sort of a strong prayer, that sort of an attitude has to be developed. If you don’t have this kind of a rigid, solid attitude then whatever the discipline you try to make, forget it. So strong prayer. The vastness of your mind says: “I want to reach enlightenment in this single lifetime, even if I can’t reach in this single lifetime enlightenment, at least some sort of a realization. Even if I can’t reach to the great, profound realization, at least being able to be an inspiration to other people and helping other people, by the result of the Dharma practice and to help myself”. With that sort of a very strong prayer, that sort of a very strong aspiration, again and again, in your mind. That is very important. Once you develop that and then you understand the meaning of the discipline, the meaning of the practice, the way you perceive it, the way you take it into your heart becomes much more better.

If you have a strong aspiration and then the discipline it will develop by itself. You don’t have to think “Oh, what I’m lacking of?” The discipline comes by itself slowly, slowly. And then how you speak to others, the attitude towards others also becomes more soften. It will soften by itself. No need to worry too much about “Am I compromising too much or too less?” So that all these positive qualities tend to develop by itself.
