Kalu Rinpoche | Transforming Our Ordinary Emotion to Clarity (Part 11)

The visualization generosity is far more important than the materialistic generosity. Because visualization is basically a practice; so practicing the repetitive generosity act in the visualization, whether it is offering to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas or whether it is offering to all the sentient beings; that sort of repetitive practice of generosity. Visualization generosity practice is very important.

That’s why the mandala is very important. Mandala is just a supreme example of how it should be, how it would be. But it doesn’t has to be that rigid. You can just sit in the park, you can just simply sit in the desert, you can sit in the mountain and then you can just say that: “I make a prayer with a blessing to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to liberate all the sentient beings”. So then you make a prayer and you make a radiance cycle of visualization.

Or you can do a little bit like: “by the blessings of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, let me project all the materials, all the objects, of all the things that all the sentient beings have a desire with or have a attachment with or what they are looking forward to and then let them be fulfilled with all the things they’ve been looking for, and let them be fulfilled with all the gifts and visualizations that I’m doing; let them be fulfilled; let them be fulfilled; let them be fulfilled with a sense of detachment attitude along with it”. And then eventually: “let them be enlightened, let them connect to the Dharma, Buddha, Sangha, over the time”; So you make a prayer like that, that is also the act of generosity.

It doesn’t has to be bloody, it doesn’t has to be expensive. When I say “bloody” I mean Chöd practice. Many people they think about the Chöd practice little bit like spirit and hunger ghosts and all that. But the principle is the same: different practitioners they use the different methods. So you don’t to be so bloody with all the visualizations, you also don’t have to be so expensive with all the different planets, you can keep your visualization very simple. The cycle of the visualization simple.

And then repeat that cycle of offering to all the sentient beings, and offering to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and then take a break in between, after three cycles, and then take a break; repeat that again and again; then that is the practice of generosity, you know? So that’s that.
