In the third year all the practices became more and more simple. There was less chanting, less prayers. There was more meditation and even less visualization. However, I continued with my yoga practice most of the time. Of course there were so many different practices but I told myself to be content with the practices that you have.
The problem with the retreat is that we start to grasp at what is the next practice, what is the next practice. Khyungpo Naljor received the same advice from Dorje Denpa saying he was very surprised that he came from the land of red-faced monkeys, from the land that can never commit to one practice, always ready to change to the next practice. “Even though you are one of them, you came all the way from Tibet to learn Buddhism and Dharma.”
That is something that I gave as advice to myself. I said, “OK, I choose my practice. It is the yoga practice and the Six Arm Mahakala practice and these are more than enough because the Six Arm Mahakala practice is about this life and the life between death and the next life. So, what more do I require? In order to accumulate more understanding about relative truth and absolute truth, if I don’t combine the body and mind then what is there to learn?” Therefore, I focused on the yoga practice even though I was practicing different deities.
