Purifying your true intention is very important, more important than finding the Guru. So always look into your intention, look into your mind that what you truly desire and whatever the desire may be whether it has a really meaning or not.
Then if you have a faith in Buddhism and the teachings of the Buddha, it is very important to practice and to receive the teaching with utmost pure intention. Devotion may not be necessary in the beginning but at least with the pure intention, listening with a pure intention, with a good heart, with the sense of sincerity and wanting to help others. That form of gentle attitude when you’re receiving a teaching is very important.
