Kalu Rinpoche | Wisdom of emptiness in everyday life – hear the needle drop (Part 4)

Some people when they reach to that state, they claim themselves as a realised being. “Ah, I have reached some level” because they finally feel a little bit absent from their illusion mind. Then they think “Oh, I have reached somewhere” and then that’s how they go down again.

So therefore, whatever you practice of Buddha dharma’s teaching, never see it in a hierarchical position, like “Oh, this is a great teaching, this is less important” always see it as an universal truth, out of compassion of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Then also, whatever you progress with your practice, always keep a reminder foundation on the ground, you understand? Never get over the cloud. Always remain with the foundation and that is a renunciation.

Many people when they think about the renunciation of the Dharma, religious perspective, they think about the life and death and samsara and the afterlife and the six realms and so on and so forth. Yeah, I mean that’s there, you can read the whole book about it. The real meaning of the renunciation is not going backward. And then only way not going backward is reminding yourself with a sense of awareness and clarity. And that is a renunciation.

If you practice it, with a bit of consistency, with a little bit of yoga, breathing, shamata, vipassana meditation, for 6 to 9 months, and then you will see the result. So don’t thing that I forgot to tell you, otherwise you will think “Oh this is going to be 20 years of experiment upon myself and I am hopeless” and then life is already finished by then [haha]. So don’t think like that, 6 months, 9 months, recognise your ordinary distraction, subtle distraction. Maintaining that and then you will see the changes within you.
