The mandala will be fitted with Mani Khorlo (prayer wheels) created by skilled Bhutanese craftsmen using high-quality materials sourced locally. In line with the Vajrayana tradition, prayers and mantras will be carefully placed inside each Mani Khorlo toward the benefit of loved ones, both living and deceased.

There will be 21,000 prayer wheels available for sponsorship. The price per unit is US$180, which may be offered by individuals, or by a group of 2-3 people who provide support for one or more units.

The Mani Khorlo initiative will offer meaningful support for the Niguma Meditation Institute (NMI) as it works toward the spiritual and social development of the last Vajrayana Kingdom on earth.

Description

The Mani Khorlo Prayer Wheel
Sponsorship Project

This project has been established to support His Eminence Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche’s activities in Bhutan and to build the Niguma Meditation Institute (NMI) in the Gelephu Mindfulness City.

The Gelephu Mindfulness City is Bhutan’s visionary, innovative initiative led with compassion and skilful means by His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the 5th King of Bhutan. It is designed to integrate sustainable, urban living with the cultural and spiritual heritage of the unique Bhutanese tradition and to create a sanctuary of well-being and tranquillity.

The city will span 2,500 square kilometres in the foothills of the picturesque Himalayan mountain range. There, on 60 acres of land, Kalu Rinpoche will build Niguma Meditation Institute (NMI) that serves as the city’s spiritual hub.

The institute’s design is inspired by that of the Vajrayana Buddhist mandala which will contain a temple with meditation and yoga halls (12,000 square feet) surrounded by a modern library, a herbal garden of Himalayan medicinal plants near educational and treatment facilities for traditional medicine, 80 retreat huts, with modern Bhutanese architecture to house leadership training and other educational seminars for Bhutanese and visitors.
