Kalu Rinpoche | My lojong

Shinay and Lhatong, insight meditation, benefited me through the Chenrezig practice. My Shinay practice was coming from the Chenrezig practice and my Lhatong was coming from the gurtso, devotional songs. The Shangpa gurtso, the songs of the Shangpa masters was my lojong. People assume that the lojong has to benefit in dissolving our ego, attachments etc. We expect a lot but it does not work like that. You just have to continue with your journey.

My lojong was the Shangpa gurtso because the Shangpa gurtso starting from Vajradhara all the way down to my master has a close history with the previous Kalu Rinpoche. When I read the whole lifetimes of experience, teaching, writing down the words, explaining to you like they are right in front of you, if that is not lojong, then what is lojong? They are explaining to you starting from the basic foundation, samsaric world, all the way to the Buddha nature. They can be very precise and sometimes you don’t even understand but it gives you extreme motivation to practice even more and that is the very meaning of lojong.

When you read the gurtso, the Shangpa gurtso, all the hardships they had gone through, your tears will not stop and you feel so many blessings and you feel very much motivated, very determined and feel that there is nothing more in this entire life more important than dharma. That is lojong.
