Join us and our special guest, Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche, for a special episode of Wisdom Dharma Chats filmed in New York City with a live studio audience. During this Wisdom Dharma Chat host, Daniel Aitken, and Rinpoche will discuss Rinpoche’s perspective on dharma in the modern world and much more.
Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche is the lineage holder of Shangpa Kagyu. Born in 1990 he was recognized at a young age as the reincarnation of Kalu Rinpoche, most notably by H. H. the Dalai Lama and H.H. Kenting Tai Situ Rinpoche. Rinpoche later developed a special relationship with Situ Rinpoche, taking him as his spiritual mentor, continuing a connection over lifetimes.
Kalu Rinpoche himself received all the empowerments and entered the traditional three-year retreat in 2004 at Sonada Monastery. After graduating in 2008 he traveled, gaining experience in the modern world, before returning to Sonada to give the full Shangpa transmission and put a new group into the retreat. Since then Rinpoche has continuously worked to spread the Dharma and the Shangpa Kagyu tradition in particular. He requested and received the Shangpa transmissions for a third time from Situ Rinpoche in 2009 and has traveled to Tibetan Buddhist and Shangpa centers around the world to sustain and promote those teachings. Kalu Rinpoche continues to connect traditional Shagpa Kagyu teaching to a modern, digital world. His work makes these teachings accessible, ensuring they will remain available for generations to come.
