About Meditation with Kalu Rinpoche (transcription part 8)

Host: what would be the minimum requirement at least, after some time, to see that some transmission is going to take place?

Kalu Rinpoche: I think the most important is what we consume. What we consume really plays a lot of things into our mind and our body. So that’s very important to keep in mind. If you just consume everything, lots of trash things, in your body, and expect some beautiful crystal mind. It is not going to work.

So it’s very important for us to start the small habit, two habits, along at the same time. Maybe being little bit healthy at the same time, doing a meditation, like a breathing exercise, probably in the morning time. The moment you open your eyes, then you go sit and then you do some breathing exercise, and then you tell yourself “everything is impermanence, and therefore everything is perfect”. So you try to say that, few sentence, and that will help you a lot.

You don’t have to say “Ah, I’m going to make everybody happy” you know? You don’t have to say “I’m going to make something great today!” that’s lot of pressure, lot of burden.

So when you wake up, just try to sit in a meditation posture, or whether you’re sitting on a chair or in the bed, doesn’t matter, just simply breathe out, few times. Breathe in, few times, in a regular pace, and normal pace. And then your mind along with it.

And then at the end of that, whether it’s 10 minutes, whether it’s 5 minutes, whether it’s 15 minutes, at the end of that, and then you tell yourself, “everything is impermanence, therefore everything is perfect” basically to detach the idea of the fixation, little bit. So that can be the, like a small start, shining little bit. It doesn’t help a lot, but it’s natural.
