Kalu Rinpoche | Look at the bad mood (Part 2)

Just simply see the definition, the very idea of that we believe that “I have a bad mood” and then examine the bad mood itself. Where does it exist, the bad mood? The bad mood exist, does the bad mood exist? In a word of the other person? If that is the bad mood, and the very existence of the bad mood, how does it look? What is the shape? What is the weight? What is the length?

And when you try to find the shape, the geometry, the weight of that, you don’t find that. Is it the sound? The vocal sound itself is the bad mood? That is also not a bad mood, that is simply the own physical verbal sound, that verbal sound is not a bad mood. Their words is not a bad mood, if you examine clearly, because it is coming from their mouth, coming from their speech.

Then you say “Ah, it’s telling to me, because this person told me something, and I have a bad mood” So where did the bad mood travel to? Did it travel, went from my ear and then went to my heart and went to my brain, that caused that bad mood? Or where is it?

So if something that you believe that is there, then that means you can trace it back. Right? If you cannot trace it back, then it is not there. It’s like a rope. If there’s an end of the rope, there’s a beginning of the rope. So you can trace, you can always analyze, where is the beginning of the rope? What is the middle of the rope?

So the bad mood is like this, you can examine. Where is the existence of the very nature and the very existence of the bad mood? Is it from the person who is speaking? Is it from the word that he or she used? Does the bad mood exist in the word? And if it does exist in the word, then you have nothing to show. There’s no color in that word. There’s no weight in that word. It’s simply a word. So examining like that, where is the very existence of the bad mood.
